Our approach emphasizes ethical practices and sustainability, involving the use of Organic/Regenerative cotton, a zero effluent discharge dyeing process, green energy for processing, biodegradable packaging, and the utilization of green hydrogen or battery-powered vehicles for shipping.
Our journey into the realm of ethical and sustainable sourcing commenced over two centuries ago. Our narrative is one of profound transformation, unwavering dedication, and an unyielding commitment to creating a positive impact on our planet.
A Historic Beginning
Our journey commenced in the 1790s as a modest cotton farming operation. It was a time when the Court of Directors of the East India Company in London revised its policy to increase the import of raw cotton from India, supporting the burgeoning textile industry in Britain. In response, we set out to cultivate native Arboretum and Herbaceous cotton varieties to supply the textile industry in Lancashire and London.
Pioneering Cotton Varieties
During the early 1800s, the Madras province introduced the Bourbon cotton variety, leading us to explore new possibilities. Subsequent trials with New Orleans and Sea Island cotton took place in Coimbatore. We transitioned into contract farming, primarily supplying cotton to the East India Company. Notably, during World War I, we focused on cultivating the superior Co 2 (Cambodia Cottons) variety.
Diversification and Growth
Leveraging our extensive experience in cultivating various cotton varieties, we expanded our horizons. After World War II, we ventured into retailing finished cotton materials. With our profound knowledge of the textile industry, we took the significant step of establishing a yarn and garment manufacturing unit in the early 1980s.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Throughout our journey, one vital lesson emerged - the importance of sustainability in cotton farming and manufacturing. We realized that our practices had unintentionally polluted our farmlands with toxic chemicals and contaminated our groundwater and waterways due to dye water discharges. In response, we embraced organic farming and, more recently, regenerative farming for cotton production. We implemented a zero fluid discharge mechanism for dyeing yarn and fabrics and adopted green energy solutions to make our factories progressively carbon neutral.
Our Vision for the Future
Today, only a small fraction (1%-2%) of global textile and apparel consumption incorporates sustainability practices. The fashion industry ranks among the top polluters worldwide. We recognize the urgent need for change. Our commitment is clear: to take baby steps towards transforming the entire global textile market into a 100% ethically and sustainably sourced and manufactured industry. Our mission is to create a safer, more sustainable planet for future generations.
Join us on our journey towards a more ethical and sustainable future. Together, we can make a difference, one conscious choice at a time.
Thank you for being a part of our story.
